PRESS RELEASE

Winnebago County States Attorney’s office files felonies faster.

Rockford, Illinois, July 2, 2001 ----- Staff in the States Attorney’s office of Winnebago County no longer rely solely on paper to decide whether or not to file criminal charges against individuals booked into the Winnebago County Jail.

From the computers at their desk, States Attorney staff members can view all of the information resulting from criminal bookings entries made by the Winnebago County Jail staff. The States Attorney staff can then select from the criminal bookings those cases they wish to create in their own system. Once the case is in their system, the States Attorney staff can then electronically file the case directly into the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s database.

This automation greatly improves both efficiency and accuracy. Much of that is due to the vast amount of information automatically available now to the State’s Attorney’s office. Such information including Biographical and Charge information is presented for each arrestee. Also available in the system is a complete Criminal History. This aids the State’s Attorney staff in making informed decisions regarding bail recommendations.

Anna Marie Arbisi, Office Manager with the States Attorney's office, said "The only data-entry my staff has to perform is the specific information our office adds to each case. All of the core case information is automatically brought over from the jail. Another big help is with the generation of correspondence to the victim, witnesses and officers associated with the case. Not only are letters easily generated, we do not have to type the information that is already in the system. This really makes our jobs easier."

Using the State’s Attorney module from Clericus Magnus, along with the information automatically imported from the Sheriff's office the States Attorney’s staff can easily generate customized letters to Victims, Witnesses and police officers who are associated with each case. The State’s Attorney module provides one button generation of the correspondence to Victims, Witnesses and police officers. Furthermore, the system automatically maintains a record of which document was sent to whom .

Marc Gasparini, Clerk of the Circuit Court for Winnebago County said, "Our job now is to match the paper filings with a report of new case filings. Data-entry for criminal case initiation has been eliminated. Our county’s justice system is very integrated. Data flows from the Sheriff to the States Attorney to the Clerk of the Court to Adult Probation without redundant data-entry. The citizens and justice organizations in Winnebago County have definitely benefited from this system. We in Winnebago County are proud that we are the first county in Illinois to implement this level of integration."
